First meeting of the LCC Digital Leaders

The first meeting of our new LCC Digital Leaders took place in the SLIC today (A1.44 at Park Lane Campus for those of you who are asking.)

Digital Leaders are students with  a wide range of IT skills who will work with the Learning Innovation Mentors in their faculties to help staff develop their use of technology (and give us the student perspective on what they’d like to see us using.) During the year, the DLs will be:

  • attending training events and meetings
  • supporting and working with members of staff in faculties across Leeds City College
  • organizing events
  • helping us improve college systems and technology

There are currently 3 DLs in place, Adam Frost (HCS) Adam Walker (Sport) and Ahmed Osman (ESOL)  and we’ll be appointing more in September.  After the introductions we looked at some of the things the school DLs had done, including creating helpsheets for staff on a range of subjects. We then had a short Moodle training session, uploading files, adding labels and embedding videos in a test course.

The meeting ended with a discussion on a meeting schedule for next year and setting up a blog (much like this one) for the Digital Leaders to communicate (it’s currently for DLs only, so you’ll have to be content with the one you’re reading now.)

This is a really exciting project for the college, and I look forward to welcoming the rest of the DLs in September.
